Davenport's Polk County service center doesn't give road tests. We'll get you ready for Lake Alfred, Lake Wales or Bartow, with pick-up at home and bilingual lessons.

Davenport sits about 18.5 miles from our office, down Poinciana Boulevard and US 17/92. Lessons begin at your home address, and we walk you through Polk's appointment-only process, from the knowledge exam to the road test at Lake Alfred or another center.
Your road test will be at a Polk center outside Davenport. Diamond and up, or a Premium package, puts you in our car that day; just plan a ride home, since we don't drop off after the test. Gold and Platinum are our most popular.

“Very Very Happy with my Driving Experience, My Driving Instructor was Josy and she was the Best instructor ever.”
Sara Contreras · Google review“I gotta say being a native New Yorker I never had the need for a license or knowing how to drive. … Now residing in Florida driving is a must.”
Lenny Bednarz · Google review“Easily passed my drivers test with a 100 and no errors. My instructor, Josy really taught me how to drive with only 3 lessons once each week that led up to the drivers test.”
jaywrld · Google reviewPolk's Davenport Service Center on Deer Creek Commerce Lane offers every license service except road testing. Lake Alfred's center, about 8.2 miles by road from the city, does give it.

Roads named here are examples. Your instructor sets the pace from your skills, the time of day and any road work.
The most important fact for a Davenport learner: the Polk County Tax Collector's Davenport Service Center at 2000 Deer Creek Commerce Lane provides all driver license services except road testing. It handles the other services by appointment, but the road test has to be booked elsewhere.
Polk gives road tests at several service centers, including Lake Alfred (200 Government Center Blvd., with a Haines City mailing address), Lake Wales (658 Highway 60 West) and Bartow (430 East Main Street). By OpenStreetMap routing, Lake Alfred is about 8.2 miles from the center of Davenport. Polk also lists approved third-party driving skills exam providers. Every Polk driver license transaction needs an appointment at appointments.polktaxes.com, and Polk does not currently serve out-of-county residents. Polk County service centers serve Polk residents only and every driver license service needs an appointment: book it at polktaxes.com.
I-4 meets US 27 at exit 55, and FDOT's Moving I-4 Forward program is adding Express Lanes on I-4 from west of US 27 to east of SR 536. While that work continues, watch for work-zone signs on the approaches, and give yourself extra time on any trip that touches the interchange.
US 27 is the road that changes the difficulty of driving in Davenport. With more than 75,000 vehicles a day on the segment north of CR 547, it asks for skills a residential street never does: judging gaps in fast traffic, holding a lane at highway speed and planning a turn well ahead.
A sensible progression has three stages. First, CR 547 and Bates Road, with 9,200 and 12,800 vehicles a day, for signals, lane position and following distance. Next, US 17/92, at 24,000 a day, for longer stretches with more traffic. Only then US 27 and, when you are ready, the I-4 approaches near exit 55, where Express Lanes work is under way. Each stage ends with a short debrief on what to repeat with a parent between lessons.
About 47.1% of Davenport residents age 5 and older speak Spanish at home, according to the American Community Survey (2020–2024). Lessons can be in Spanish, in English or both, and you can change languages in the middle of a lesson.
Polk's own teen page confirms what applies statewide: effective Friday, February 6, 2026, all driver license exams, including road tests, are given in English only. In practice, a student can learn right-of-way rules and signs in Spanish but must understand an examiner's instructions in English at Lake Alfred, Lake Wales or Bartow. In the lessons before your test, we switch to English directions so the wording feels familiar, and Spanish stays available for anything you want explained again.
Our office is at 3831 W Vine St in Kissimmee, and Davenport is about 18.5 miles away by road: a short stretch west on US 192, then Oren Brown Road, Poinciana Boulevard and south on US 17/92 into town. Road packages include pick-up from your address, so tell us where you live when you book and we confirm the arrangement.
Plan test day carefully. Your road test is at a Polk center, not in Davenport, and we do not drop students off after the road test. If your package includes our car, we pick you up at home; arrange for a family member or friend to collect you from the test center afterward. Because Polk works by appointment only, book your slot first and we schedule your final refresher around that date.
Davenport's population roughly doubled between the 2020 Census (9,043) and the Census Bureau's July 2025 estimate (18,110). If you are getting your first license here, this is the sequence.
Teens under 18 who have never held a license take the 6-hour DETS course, pass the 50-question Class E knowledge exam (40 correct) and keep the learner's license for 12 months or until 18 while logging 50 supervised hours, 10 at night. Polk's teen checklist also includes a “Notice and Consent for Road Test Video/Audio Recording” form. First-time adults 18 and older take the 4-hour TLSAE course and the knowledge exam in person, by appointment, at any Polk center except Bartow, which does not give written tests.
Davenport grew from Fort Davenport, established in 1838 during the Second Seminole War. The settlement was first called Horse Creek and incorporated as a city in 1915 at a meeting of 26 registered voters. City Hall is at 1 South Allapaha Avenue, and the city lists the Tom Fellows Community Center, the Lewis W. Mathews Sports Complex and Wilson Park among its facilities.
The road test story has a modern twist. In 2023, the Polk Tax Collector described its new Lake Alfred Service Center as “our first enclosed driving range.” For Davenport learners, that center is about 8.2 miles away by OpenStreetMap routing. Safety numbers explain the attention: in 2024 Polk County recorded 12,755 crashes and 114 deaths, and drivers aged 15 to 19 were involved in 1,663 crashes.
